There is estimated to be 150 million tonnes of plastic in our oceans.

Update 30th July 2024
A Big Thank You to the Big Lechlade Litter Pickers! On Saturday 13 July we were thrilled to hold our first ever fundraising litter pick in Lechlade. Thank you so much to everyone who showed up – we were overwhelmed by your support and enthusiasm for the event. Thankfully the rain stayed away and we were able to spread out around Lechlade and, after 2 hours, we collected over 10 bin bags full of litter between us! An amazing achievement and Lechlade is a cleaner town as a result. Afterwards we held a cake and prosecco sale outside the Memorial Hall and the total profit raised at the end of day was £97. Every penny raised at our fundraising events gets put to good use.
As we all know, the Early Years sector is in crisis due to years of chronic underfunding. The new Labour government have set out their educational and childcare reforms in the hope of tackling the crisis, but things don’t happen over night and in the meantime, charity preschools such as ours continue to fight against the imbalance of spiralling outgoings vs insufficient incomings.
We would like to say a special thank you to The Cotswold Kiwi for generously purchasing the litter pickers, Lechlade Town Council for kindly supplying all of the bin bags and gloves and lastly to The New Inn for donating the dinner voucher for our raffle. We are so grateful for everyone’s support and we hope to organise many more – and much BIGGER – litter picks in the future....so watch this space! Thank you FOLLies / Friends of Little Learners (the fundraising team)
On Saturday 13th July, we are organising an exciting, feel-good fundraiser: THE BIG LECHLADE LITTLER PICK.
This will be a fantastic opportunity to do something good for the environment, get out with friends and family, and raise vital funds for Lechlade Little Learners. You can walk the streets, amble along the river or even take your kit back to where you live and litter pick there. Bring the kids, bring the dogs – it’s a perfect way to get some steps in on a summer’s day while helping your community.
Time: 2pm
Location: Memorial Hall playground
Cost: £5 per entry, includes:
• 1x hand-held litter picker – yours to keep
• 1x general bin bag and 1x recyclables bin bag
• 1x pair of disposable gloves
• PLUS 1x entry into a prize draw to win Dinner for Two at The New Inn
And afterwards, from 4pm onwards, there will be a refreshing HIGH TEA in The Memorial Hall to reward those weary feet! We will also draw the lucky winner for dinner for 2 at The New Inn. Tea, cakes, scones & prosecco all on offer – and all profits going towards keeping our local pre-school’s doors open.
Please do get involved and come along!
To register your interest, please email littlelearnerscommittee@gmail.com so that we can gauge numbers for the day.
